-- On July 18, 1969, Sen. Edward 'Ted' Kennedy, D-Mass, plunged his car into a pond on Chappaquiddick Island, Mass., killing his passenger, Mary Jo Kopenchne. He did not report the "incident" for more than 10 hours. No charges were ever brought against the Senator.
